Last night Kim and I went on an official date – dinner at TGIFriday’s and a movie at the nearby mall. Ever since the trailers came out last year, we’d been looking forward to seeing Mr. & Mrs. Smith, starring some obscure actors named Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. (And directed by Doug Liman the same guy who had a hand in bringing us us The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy.)

Suffice it to say, this movie did not disappoint.

Plenty of action, a good handful of hilarious dialogue and sight gags, and two great-lookin’ stars makes Mr. & Mrs. Smith a surprisingly enjoyable action/comedy romp. (Yes, it’s a “romp,” deal with it…) The only downside were the trailers and previews, which gave away too many of the great zingers and scenes, in my opinion. Granted, I we need the previews to generate the interest in seeing the movie in the first place, but it’s a fine line between showing and teasing, and it’s easy to cross it.

Overall? I’d give Mr. & Mrs. Smith a B, if not a B+. Worthy of the full $18.00 we spent on tickets, I have to admit. (And when I find an action movie that Kim enjoys as much as I did, it’s a rare thing indeed…)

My review of Stephen Chow’s “Kung Fu Hustle.” One of the funniest movies I’ve EVER seen, and well-worth the full price of admission. If you’ve been on the fence about seeing this movie – fall off now. You won’t regret it. Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I’ve laughed so hard, so loud and so often when watching a movie in a theater. (The only other flick that made my face hurt from laughing so much was “Jackass: The Movie,” and that was partly from laughing and partly from grimacing painfully.)

It should be noted that Stephen Chow also directed Shaolin Soccer, which I have yet to see, but will be renting from Netflix ASAP.)

Third time’s the charm, in more ways than one. (Speaking from a personal reviewer and sequel standpoint.) Sure, this review was delayed for a week, but perhaps it’s for the best. Things are often better when they simmer, right? (BBQ sauce, yes… boiling squirrels… perhaps not…)
